Ladder Trader

Careers

Build the evidence layer for digital-asset markets.

Ladder Trader makes fragmented crypto venues measurable with the rigor of traditional electronic markets. We're a small, senior team looking for people who care about getting the data right — and about being able to defend it.

See open roles
01

Evidence over noise

We ship reproducible paths from venue event to analytical object, with failure modes labeled rather than hidden.

02

Small team, real ownership

You own a layer end to end. No hand-offs into a void, no unexplained columns leaving the building.

03

Remote and asynchronous

Distributed across the US and EU, anchored in New York. We optimize for deep work and written thinking.

Data Platform/Full-time

Senior Market Data Engineer

Location
Remote (US / EU) · New York
Compensation
$170,000 – $220,000 + equity
Apply for this role

Own the capture and normalization layer that turns raw venue feeds into the versioned, lineage-tracked datasets the whole firm builds on.

What you'll do

  • Build and operate low-latency ingestion for spot, perpetual, and options venues with dual-clock (exchange and receive) timestamping.
  • Design the venue ontology — symbol maps, tick rules, and book-event semantics — so data stays comparable across markets and contract generations.
  • Harden integrity gates for crossed books, sequence gaps, stale quotes, and anomalous depth before any feature reaches research.
  • Ship versioned datasets with reproducible transforms, QA scorecards, and lineage that desks can defend under scrutiny.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years building production data systems, ideally against real-time market or event-streaming feeds.
  • Strong Python and one systems language (Rust, C++, or Go), with a feel for latency and back-pressure.
  • Hands-on with columnar storage (Parquet/Arrow) and a streaming backbone (Kafka, Redpanda, or similar).
  • Rigor about data correctness — you treat timestamps, sequence numbers, and idempotency as first-class concerns.

Bonus

  • Experience with crypto exchange APIs (Binance, Bybit, OKX, Kraken) or traditional market data (FIX, ITCH).
  • Familiarity with order-book reconstruction and microstructure.
Research/Full-time

Quantitative Researcher — Market Microstructure

Location
Remote (US / EU)
Compensation
$180,000 – $240,000 + equity
Apply for this role

Turn reconstructed order-book data into defensible research — liquidity, volatility, and execution-cost analytics, published with their assumptions and limits stated.

What you'll do

  • Develop liquidity, depth, and volatility measures across venues, with confidence bounds rather than silent point estimates.
  • Write research notes and methodology that state assumptions, failure modes, and known limits plainly.
  • Partner with engineering to specify the features and datasets your models need, and to validate them.
  • Stress-test findings against alternative venues, regimes, and reconstruction paths before anything ships.

What we're looking for

  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field, or equivalent research track record.
  • Fluent in Python for research (NumPy, pandas, Polars) and comfortable with large tick datasets.
  • Grounding in market microstructure — order books, price formation, execution cost.
  • Clear technical writing; you can defend a result and name what would falsify it.

Bonus

  • Published research or open-source work in microstructure or market data.
  • Experience with crypto market structure specifically.
Product/Full-time

Full-Stack Engineer — Delivery & Product

Location
Remote (US / EU) · New York
Compensation
$150,000 – $200,000 + equity
Apply for this role

Build the surfaces clients meet our data through — dataset delivery, dashboards, and the research site — with the same rigor the data itself is held to.

What you'll do

  • Build client-facing delivery: versioned dataset downloads, an API, and dashboards over live and historical market data.
  • Own features end to end across a TypeScript / Next.js front end and Python or Node services.
  • Turn research output into interactive, trustworthy visualizations that hold up on scrutiny.
  • Care for performance, accessibility, and reliability as product features, not afterthoughts.

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years shipping production web applications with React/TypeScript.
  • Comfortable across the stack — API design, a relational database, and cloud deployment.
  • An eye for interface craft and data visualization.
  • Pragmatic about scope; you ship, measure, and iterate.

Bonus

  • Experience with real-time data (WebSockets, streaming) or charting libraries.
  • Interest in crypto, trading, or financial data.
